YDS History in the making

Updated: Jan 19, 2019

From Fingal Independent 30 December 2009:

“A tradition dating back 80 years was reborn in Malahide Library as the facility held a Christmas concert. To conclude their centenary celebrations, the library staged a festive lunch-time concert, where guests were welcomed by Cllr. Tom Kellegher, the deputy mayor of Fingal County Council, while music was provided by a string quartet from Young Dublin Symphonia, which is based in Malahide. Members of the quartet included Dorothy Conaghan, the organisation’s director, Alice Varley on second violin, cellist Maria Gibbons and Naoise Dack on violin. During the 1920’s and 1930’s, concerts were often held in the library and some would have involved local musicians and other visiting artists. The concert was sponsored by SWETS periodical subscription agents, who supply magazines and periodicals to all Fingal County Library branches.”
